Gardenias are renowned for their elegance and intoxicating fragrance, making them a beloved choice among flower enthusiasts. The gardenia's blossoms are creamy white, although some varieties may have hints of yellow or ivory. With multiple layers of velvety petals forming a lush rosette shape. The flowers are not only visually stunning but also emit a powerful, sweet fragrance that has made gardenias a favorite in perfumery. They have dark green, glossy leaves that provide a striking contrast to the white flowers. These leaves remain evergreen, providing year-round beauty.
My journey with gardenias is a deeply personal one, intertwined with the most significant moments of my life. From my wedding day to the creation of my gardenia-scented candle and room mist. These flowers have been a constant source of joy and inspiration. Every time I see a gardenia, I am reminded of the love and memories that continue to blossom in my heart.
With this botanical backdrop, let me share how gardenias have personally touched my life and have become symbols of purity, love, and nostalgia.
My love affair with gardenias is deeply rooted in one of the most memorable days of my life: my wedding day. It was a beautiful June afternoon, and I had chosen to get married in the intimate and aromatic setting of a flower shop. As I walked down the aisle, the hauntingly beautiful strains of "Dos Gardenias" by Ibrahim Ferrer of the Buena Vista Social Club filled the air. This song held a special significance for me; it was a cherished memory of my beloved Mami, who once sang it to me with her sweet, melodious voice. Every note of the song brought her spirit into the room, making her presence felt on my special day.
An affection for gardenias runs so deep that I created a room mist and candle with a gardenia scent called San German, named after a historical town in Puerto Rico. Most of my scents for Flor y Yerba come from experiences and travels I've been fortunate to witness and share with all of you. Here is what I wrote about San German. " An evening stroll through the San German Square, while listening to the arias of the island's coqui whisper in your ear, while the aromas of Gardenia and Flora linger in the air." I wanted to capture this essence, not just as a memory, but as something tangible that others could also experience.
In addition to my reflections, I am thrilled to have a contributing writer who has penned a beautiful story about gardenias. Her eloquent words and unique perspective have added a new dimension to this journal, celebrating the profound impact gardenias can have on our lives.
